Healing Properties

Soothing, for cough and throat inflammation, for irritated stomach and diarrhea, gum inflammation, poorly healing wounds and ulcers.

Applications and History: Since the green-winged orchid has become very rare, it is strictly protected. Even in ancient times, it was highly valued as a medicinal plant due to its mucilage content. It can be used for all types of irritated mucous membranes, whether the bronchi in coughs, the mouth, or the stomach lining. All can be soothed by the mucilage from the salep tubers.

In the past, the tubers of the green-winged orchid were also used as an aphrodisiac because they visually resemble testicles, following the doctrine of signatures. However, the aphrodisiac effect lacks any basis, unlike the soothing effect of the mucilage.

Notes on the Herbal Education Trail

The abundance of Alpine flowers on the mountains from June to early August is a beautiful reward for the climb along the herbal education trail. In all these plants lies not only beauty but often health benefits as well. All the useful and beneficial gifts from nature can certainly not replace a doctor.

But taking responsibility for prevention and, above all, paying attention to our body’s signals in time is a very good step toward effective folk medicine. On behalf of the Plattform Planneralm 3000, I wish you much joy in rediscovering our natural world!
